Delta Peony is located in Sommelsdijk, a small village on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee in the south of the Netherlands. Thanks to its southern location, peonies that are cultivated over here ship a bit earlier in the season than those cultivated in the province of North Holland. When the supply of peonies coming out of France runs dry, it takes a couple of weeks before the nurseries in North Holland can catch up. And that’s where Delta Peony jumps in!
Delta Peony is a true family business where everyone has a deep passion for flowers, no exceptions! Visitors to the nursery are treated to a wonderful tour by the proud and enthusiastic Leendert Mastenbroek, his wife Erika, and their twins Jaap and Joanne. Leendert is a passionate craftsman who holds a lot of love and passion for the flowers he cultivates on his land. Erika believes in peonies that open up, so she personally examines all peonies to make sure only the best ones will leave the nursery. Jaap and Joanne, clearly inherited their passion for the product from their parents, and their enthusiasm for peony cultivation is evident. They are fully involved in the business, actively contributing to the success of Delta Peony.
If you walk through the fields of Delta Peony, the love for the product and the care and effort put in by the family is impossible to ignore. The whole family is involved in the harvesting process; every peony that goes out to buyers has to be absolutely perfect.
Delta Peony has an extraordinary assortment, full of exclusive varieties that are planted in large numbers. At present, 31 varieties are being cultivated, such as Alertie, Bowl of Cream, Chiffon Parfait, Class Act, Command Performance, Etched Salmon, Many Happy Returns, Gardenia, Sarah Bernhardt, Red Sarah Bernhardt, Dr. Alexander Fleming, Duchesse de Nemours, Princess Bride, Sunny Girl, Belgravia and Coral Sunset. The following varieties are newly planted: Bridal Grace, Fragrant Bouquet, Cedar Surprise, Colonel Owen Cousins, Sugar and Spice and Soft Salmon Saucer.
Delta Peony understands what the peony business is all about: the company produces peonies for artists who want to convey a message. Peonies from Delta Peony must be earned and My Peony Society has the honourable task of conveying that message!
