My Peony Society is a family business with a long and proud history. Where we are today is the result of Ernst Star’s lifelong passion for the best flowers, and his desire to go his own way. Our future is built on a strong foundation.
1954
Ernst is born into a family of flower traders. His father trades with local growers, selling to wholesalers and florists. At the age of 14, Ernst quits school in order to apprentice as a trader himself. Before long he starts expanding the family business.
2008
The family business has blossomed into Star & Van der Gugten, a leading cash & carry for cut flowers. Ernst sells cut flowers to big clients such as Albert Heijn. Peonies, by then still a niche product, catch his eye. It’s love at first sight.
2011
Ernst’s son Marty joins, focusing on peonies. We begin uniting the best growers, bringing togther the highest quality peonies.
2016
My Peony Society is founded by Ernst, Lennart and Marty. Soon after, Teus, Ryan and Robin join. Vertelman, Paeon and Mastenbroek Deltapeony are among the first growers to join.
2018
We join forces with Dutch Flowers Group, so we an expand our reach even more, offering our collection to peony fans across the globe. Our peonies are awarded 1st prize in the Keukenhof Summer Flowers Competition.
2020
Marty takes over as Chief Peony Officer. We move to Aalsmeer, publish our first Peony Magazine and become MPS certified.
2021
Ernst passes away at the age of 67. His passion and vision live on in My Peony Society, always following our hearts.
2024
The new website launches. We’re excited about the future: let’s live life in full bloom!
